Objective: We explored the attitudes of foodservice managers and the beliefs of foodservice staff and educators prior to adopting a farm-to-school program (FTSP). Methods: A mixed-methods case study of 4 rural schools examined attitudes of foodservice managers (N = 4), foodservice staff (N = 49), and educators (N = 152), prior to program adoption using interviews and surveys. Results: Qualitative themes were: More work for me, Unsure, Healthy changes and choices, Worry about food safety, Opportunities, and Complicated issue. Survey attitude scores were 67.9% (foodservice staff) and 78.5% (educators). Mixed-methods analysis revealed convergent data. Conclusions: Whereas positive attitudes existed for farm-to-school programs, barriers require additional resources for successful program adoption.
