Objective: The aim of this study was to explore factors influencing family health history (FHH) discussions between young adults and their primary care physicians. Methods: Using a Web-based survey, we collected data from 1841 English-speaking students enrolled in a large southern university. Results: We found statistically significant sex differences. Being African-American (p < .05), lack of knowledge about cancer (p < .05), and disagreeing that FHH information can help with disease prevention (p < .05) adversely affected male participants' FHH communication. Conclusions: Colleges need to provide more culturally sensitive educational resources related to FHH. Moreover, misconceptions of collecting FHH should be dispelled among black males.
