School Social Workers HIV Attitudes and Adolescent Prevention Strategies
Objective
The objective of this study was to examine the relationships among professional development, personal contact with HIV+ persons, and the attitudes and behavior of school social workers towards youth with HIV/AIDS.
Methods
The School Professionals Attitudes Towards AIDS Instrument (SPATA) was completed by 169 school social workers.
Results
Attendance at professional workshops on HIV/AIDS was a significant predictor of attitudes toward working with HIV+ youth (t = .698, p < .05).
Conclusions
Professional development workshop training about HIV/AIDS shows promise for predicting school social worker attitudes about HIV/AIDS.
